Covering a Kitfox with Oratex

For the past several days I've been helping a friend (Terry) to cover his Kitfox SS7. We are doing it in Oratex Silver. We began with the wings, doing the bottoms first then the tops.

The first task is to cut the fabric to length and width of the wing. Next, we align it on the wing and hold it in position with tape while we draw the outlines of the glued surfaces from the back side. This allows us to see where to apply the glue on the fabric. It takes two coats of glue on each surface, back of the fabric and wing. There is a 24hr minimum wait time from the 2nd coat of glue to the actual application of the fabric to the wing. The glue is activated by heat, either from a heat gun or iron.

When applying the fabric to the wing, we reposition it as it was before and tape it in place. We verify that all the surfaces to be mated have glue on them and then start in the middle of the leading edge and work our way outward. Once the leading edge is done we work our way down each rib pushing to the trailing edge. Then finish with the trailing edge wrapping it around to the opposite side.

We finished the second bottom today.
